Book of John: Week 2

John 1:19-34

Discussion Questions:

Open Discussion

What is something from the text or the sermon that stood out to you?

From last week, what were the three things we learned that John the Baptist did to point others to Jesus?

Sermon Discussion

Why do you think John the Baptist was so threatening to the Pharisees?

What does it practically look like to “get out of the way” so God can work?

Where might pride, control, or comfort be blocking the road God wants to build?

John said he wasn’t even worthy to untie Jesus’ sandals. Share an example from your life of something that keeps/kept you from bowing that low before Jesus.

In what ways has the desire to feel important shaped your decisions, relationships, or spiritual life? How has it helped—or hindered—your walk with Jesus?

What’s the difference between being valuable and being important—and why does confusing those two cause so much damage in relationships and faith?

How does seeing Jesus as both the Lion and the Lamb reshape your definition of leadership, strength, and heroism this week?

Application

What are ways you can build roads this week (in the home, your heart, and for the mission of God) to stay out of the way and let God work?

Who can you ask to hold you accountable to Bible reading, humility, and pursuing God’s design in all walks of life?

What step will you take this Spring semester to pursue spiritual growth in Groups, Trainings, or Marriage?
