Book of John: Week 7

John 3:16-21

Discussion Questions:

Open Discussion

What were the main points of the sermon?

What were some key takeaways from the passage of scripture or the sermon?

Where have you heard or seen John 3:16 quoted outside of a church service?

Sermon Discussion

Do I actually believe that God loves me — or do I secretly believe “except for me”? What would change in your life if you truly received His love?

What am I trusting in instead of Jesus? What functional savior are you relying on right now — success, reputation, parenting, money, comfort, church attendance, morality, hard work?

Do I understand what I’ve been saved from? Jesus says those who don’t believe are “condemned already.” Do I grasp the seriousness of sin and judgment — or have I minimized it?

Jesus says He did not come to condemn but to save. When you think about Christ, do you feel shame pushing you away — or grace drawing you in?

You may know the “what.” You may even know the “who.” But when was the last time you simply said: “Wow, Jesus”? How can you remind yourself of just how wonderful the grace and mercy of Jesus is?

Application

John says people love darkness rather than light. Is there an area of your life you’re keeping from Jesus? A habit? A relationship? A thought life? A private compromise? What would it look like to bring that into the light with a close friend?

Who do you know that this week needs to hear, “for God so loved the world”?
