Open Discussion

What were the main points of the sermon?

What were some key takeaways from the passage of scripture or the sermon?

Sermon Discussion

John repeatedly warns believers not to be deceived. - What are some voices today that subtly reshape who Jesus is or what following Him should look like, and how do you personally test whether those voices are from God or from the world?

John and Paul both warn that false teaching and careless talk spread quickly and damage the church. -How can gossip or “new ideas” about God quietly undermine trust and unity in a church, and what does it look like to confront or slow that down in a wise and loving way?

We named several common lies about Jesus, obedience, church, parenting, and happiness. - Which of those lies feels most tempting or familiar to you right now, and why do you think it has such power in your life or culture?

A mature believer stays emotionally connected without being swept up in fear, outrage, or drama. - How do you typically respond when emotions run high in your family, friendships, or church, and what would it look like to practice a calmer, more Spirit-led presence?

John says love comes from God and is defined by what God has done for us in Christ. - How is God’s definition of love different from the world’s definition, and where do you see that difference most clearly in your relationships right now?

John contrasts fear that comes from living in the world with confidence that comes from abiding in God. - When life feels unstable, where do you tend to “live” emotionally, and what helps you return to God as your home base rather than just a place you visit?

Application
